This year was Texas Monthly's second annual
BBQ Festival. It was bigger and better this year with more attendees and an overall better experience. Much has been written about the event form plenty of angles (see links below), so I thought I'd take you through a tour of the food.

DISCLAIMER:
Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.

Love the awards. Looks like some amazing BBQ was to be had.
Sorry I missed ya. Great minds think alike. I shot all the booths and food, too, but I missed Smitty's. I'm stil enjoying my leftovers. :)
I can send my shot of Snow's offering if you want it. Don and I made that our first stop so we could sample Snow's and Franklin's side-by-side, with Franklin the clear winner this year.
I can send you a shot of the Snow's sampler if you like. Don and I headed there first thing to taste their brisket side-by-side with Franklin's - clearly no contest this year.
so is the bbq as good as actually visiting restaurant at events like these?
Most everyone put out a respectable product. They all suffer somewhat from not being at home, but the Franklin brisket was on and the Big Daddy's ribs were better than any I've had at their restaurant.
We had an amazing time and so much great BBQ. Only one complaint. Myself and 20 friends came in starting at 1:30 and not one of us got a ballot. Therefore we had no voice on people's choice! Other than that we had a great time!
