I tried Virgie's for the first time about a month ago. I didn't like the sausage (I think I may be more of a hot guts type of guy), the pork ribs were ok, but the brisket was good. It's probably some of the best brisket that I've had recently.

You must have caught them on a bad day. This place sometimes suffers from not enough traffic. They are at their best during deer hunting season when they know crowds are coming. It is one of my favorites in the state.

I stopped here tonight based on this review. It was worth getting off I-35 for as I was passing through town. The ribs, brisket and sausage were all first rate. Sausage was very juicy and flavorful. RIbs were very meaty with a great crust and smokey flavor. Brisket was juicy and smokey with the right amount of fat and delicious crust. None of the meats needed sauce - they were perfect as served. Luckily they serve the sauce on the side and don't bathe their servings like some joints do. Service was friendly and personal. They really make you feel at home and encourage you to try as much food as you care to. Their pride certainly shows! I plan on stopping by again and passing up the more convenient Rudy's instead.

I was recently at Rump's and the ribs were great as was the pork. Brisket was a little chewy. He makes the best catfish anywhere. The fried shrimp was outstanding also. I loved the spicy kick. But I must say that the Pecan Cobbler was the bomb. Go there just for that if for nothing else. It will be a regular stop for me on my way to the ranch.

Floore Country Store in Helotes has decent BBQ as well (weekends only). I stopped in one Friday afternoon to purchase some music tickets, and was overwhelmed by the smell coming from the smoker that was churning out front. I couldn't resist, so I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich. What I received was honest to goodness smoked brisket on a delicious toasted bun. I've been back several times since just to satisfy a craving amid the BBQ desert of West San Antonio.
