Steam tables as far as the eye can see...that's the welcome you get at this mediocre buffet thta some misguided sould described to me as a BBQ joint.
The three meat plate of brisket, sausage and ribs arrived absolutley drowned in a thin vegetal sauce that lacked complexity or smokiness. There was nary a bite avialable without sauce, but I doubt I would have liked it any better. The sausage must have been seconds from the Sysco truck since they didn't even measure up to Eckrich. The brisket was tender, but dry and mostly tasteless. Even bites with the crust weren't worth going back for. The ribs were the best item once the sauce had been scraped away. They seemed to be the only meat that was introduced to the smoker, but they weren't exactly stellar.
The rating is based on their "specialty" BBQ, not on the rest of the food, but I'm not going to bother stopping again.

You need to visit Pack Saddle BBQ in San Angelo, TX. Best you'll ever eat!!
ReplyDeleteForget the BBQ, why go that route there. You should have gone for the chicken-fried, which is the best buffet chicken-fried in Texas. Pan-fried like all the best ones, not deep-fried like the worst ones.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - You may have missed it, but it's not a CFS blog...it's a BBQ blog.
ReplyDeleteBeen to this place several times in the past several years, never thought of it as a BBQ joint.
ReplyDeleteAlso in Fairfield, try (and review) Cole's BBQ, I-45 N.E. side exit 198
ReplyDeleteSam's Restaurant is just like my kitchen. I go there if I want to eat. I really love their food and if you are looking for the coolest place to stay, Sam's Restaurant is the one that I can recommend.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a necropost, but:
ReplyDelete"Anonymous - You may have missed it, but it's not a CFS blog...it's a BBQ blog."
Well, you may have missed it, but it's a restaurant known for its CFS, not it's BBQ. Seriously, you gonna review Burger King ribs next? (Please don't).
Saying that, this is the greatest blog in the history of ever.
Where there is BBQ, I will be there to eat it...even if it's at Burger King. Thanks for the compliment on the blog.
ReplyDeleteYou went to the wrong BBQ joint in Fairfield. I love Cole's BBQ at exit 198. It is hidden in the shell gas station at exit 198. Consistently good brisket.
