BELLAIRE: Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que
6601 South Rice Avenue
Bellaire, TX 77401-4012
713-666-0661
Open M-Sat 10:30-8:30, Sun 11-4Other than the good version of a jalapeno hot link, there's not much positive to say about this joint. The ribs were chewy and dry with no smokiness and little overall flavor.
Brisket was dog food grade with loads of chewy unrendered fat. There was no discernible smoke flavor and little flavor of any kind. The jalapeno sausage was actually quite good, but it seems as if they must have lucked into a good supplier. They alone aren't worth returning for.

Don't ya hate it when you waste the gas, the price of the tab, and the calories on 'Q that doesn't make the grade?
ReplyDeleteBe glad you live in Dallas and don't have to eat here more often. My in-laws LOVE this place, for reasons I'll never understand.
ReplyDeleteIt's painful.
Especially with so much quality Q in town.
Well even tho the sauce is different it has a unique flavor that makes you want more. The turkey is the best you could try any where. The brisket is the best just as long you. Order extra lean, n the French fries well the best ever had and always cooked when ordered.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that there is no good BBQ near central Bellaire.
ReplyDeleteTrue, the BBQ here is not very good, but do what I do and take a different approach - order the tacos. They come 3 to an order and are filled with chopped brisket. Then add their self-serve pico de gallo and drizzle on the thin, but peppery BBQ sauce they have here and ... well, I like it! Try it, and you will too.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame to see these comments... 20-30 years ago it was my absolute favorite, ESPECIALLY the sauce. A huge sausage po-boy drenched in their sauce was thing of beauty. It was different ownership back then obviously... I'll have to make a trip to Houston and go see how much the pit has changed.
