Today is the last day to enter your original review for the FCGBBQ TMBBQ Festival competition. All of the entries will be featured on the blog, and the winner will be announced on Monday. For rules and details see my earlier post.
This weekend brings BBQ competition fever to Oak Cliff where the Blues, Bandits & BBQ Competition will be raging this Sunday. Cookers are setting up today for their turn-ins tomorrow. Find out how you can get a taste of the action. I'll be there judging.
Finally, the latest episode of Food Wars went to Kansas City, and it aired on Wednesday. The episode featured Gates BBQ against Arthur Bryant's. Ribs and brisket with copious amounts of sauce went head-to-head, with Arthur Bryant's coming out the clear winner with 4 of the 5 votes. Based on the FCGBBQ trips to both joints, we'd have to agree. Did anyone else see the show? Agree or disagree? Based on my visits to Gates and the shots taken in the restaurant, most of their patrons are black, so did anyone else find it odd that the "superfans" chosen for both of these black owned businesses were both white?

Never had Gates; but I did go to Arthur Bryant's I had the brisket sandwich and fries which is huge.
ReplyDeleteI think Bryant was very good, just not traditional Texas bbq of course but a great place for a fantastic bbq experience.
The results may have been different if the "superfans" would have been a black husband/wife contestants. Would have been interesting to view...I eaten at both and personally I enjoyed the Ribs more at Gates...something about their sauce made the difference...both are very good...heading to KC next week for work and plan to take in Oklahoma Joes and at least one other Cue Joint while there...
