Upcoming BBQ Events

With just five months left in 2012, I'm amazed to see the breadth of barbecue-centric events still to come. Here are a few choice ones in chronological order:

Houston : Thursday, August 9th - Low & Slow: An Evening of Smoked Food & Film. Foodways Texas brings smoked meat, beer and a film about Texas BBQ traditions. They'll also be giving away tickets to their upcoming barbecue-themed symposium on March 21-23 of 2013 and the third annual Barbecue Summer Camp in June. $50

Dallas : Thursday, August 16th - Blues, Brews and BBQ held at Mama Faye's Barbecue in Deep Ellum. They'll have BBQ, beer and wine and blues music by the Ray Johnston Band. This event is free.

Dallas : Sunday, August 19th - Fearing's Fifth Anniversary Bash at the Ritz is one not to miss. We love Dean and all, but he's bringing in barbecue legend Chris Lilly from Alabama and beer from Deep Ellum Brewing Company. Smoked oysters, smoked chicken w/ Alabama white sauce and pulled pork sliders sound good to me, and that's just part of the menu. $55

Austin : Sunday, September 23rd - Texas Monthly BBQ Festival. This is the third annual, and every year the tickets have sold out more quickly than the last. If you got yours in the couple of hours before they were sold out, then I'll see you there. Sold Out

Oxford : October 27th-29th - Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium. If you think the TexMo BBQ Fest sold out fast, every ticket for this annual symposium (this year's theme is barbecue) was gone in twelve minutes. Luckily, I had a quick trigger finger. This one is in Mississippi, and I'm thinking a road trip is in order. Sold Out

Dallas : Sunday, November 4th - Meat Fight will be held at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Deep Ellum, and there will not be a cooler barbecue competition this year. The list of competitors is impressive and the judging booth carries some real pitmaster heft. Be sure to get your tickets here when they go on sale September 14th. $50
