Doc's Hickory Creek Barbeque

LAKE DALLAS: Doc’s Hickory Creek Barbeque
8656 S Stemmons Fwy
Lake Dallas, TX 75065
940-321-3726
Open Daily 11-9

Update: This joint is CLOSED, and is now called Chasin' Tail BBQ.

2008: The proprietors here have an odd Elvis fascination, and a hard-to-find location. You can easily see the place and its giant pig-shaped smoker from the highway, but getting there is another story. The brisket here was moist, tender, and well seasoned, but the fat was not well rendered, and it had little crust. Despite the nice smoke line, there was little smoke flavor. The ribs were dry with no crust, and little smoke, but still had decent flavor.

  1. Sadly, the tough location really hurts HC BBQ. I think they're surviving only by the Saturday am Defensive Driving course attendance. They do have some of the best BBQ sauce around, IMHO.

  2. Total crap!!! All the reviews I've read so far are way too kind. The lady behind the counter greeted us with "whataya have" and when my wife got around to making up her mind, the lady hurriedly kept saying "what else, what else?" She did the same thing to me and was just plane rude, so I shrugged it off thinking maybe she had a bad day. The only thing decent was the tea and beans. The brisket my wife ordered had a lot of fatty pieces and the ribs I ordered were dry and tough. I eat a lot of BBQ. With my job, I travel a lot and eat BBQ everywhere I go; personally I wouldn't give Doc's BBQ to a dog!!!!!!
The tables were covered with very well worn out red and white checkered table cloths. The one we sat at had a TV remote and since we were the only ones in the dining room we put the TV on Cash Cab and tried to enjoy our meal. The place started to fill in with a few regulars and then Doc walked in. He was talking to a customer and then all of a sudden said "I knew something was wrong where is the TV remote?" The customer he was bumping gums with chimed in "yeah, there's no 70's music on the tube." Doc spotted the remote on our table and bumped my son in the head with his elbow as he retrieved the remote to put the TV on 70's music. He did not even apologize to my son. I was furious and should have walked out right then and there but I paid for my food and figured I might as well finish some of it. We were totally embarrassed by what Doc did and he had the nerve to say to us "come back again" as we made our way to the door. Not a chance in hell mister!!!
So let's see, Rude Service, Less than average food, dumpy dining room and a jerk for an owner. Folks save your time and money and go somewhere else, Doc's just doesn't cut the mustard.
