Up In Smoke BBQ

ABBOTT: Up in Smoke BBQ
212 S Hickory St

Abbott, TX 76621
Open Daily 11-8

My last review of this joint, before they moved down the highway, was short and sweet, and this one will be no different.

Don't let the photos fool you. The camera makes this stuff look almost edible. After a single gag-inducing bite of the fatty and chewy brisket that lacked smoke or any other flavor, I moved on to the equally bad ribs. Dry meat with a soggy bark held even less smoke flavor. It's sad that this convenient location has allowed Up in Smoke to not only hawk a poor product for years, but they've actually sold enough of this desiccated meat to warrant an expansion. Consider this your warning when the siren's song of tantalizing billboards attempts to move your finger toward the blinker. Keep driving.

Very harsh words! Putrid= "in a state of foul decay or decomposition, as animal or vegetable mattter; rotten." Let's be totally honest. Was the brisket actually putrid?

Right on point my man. Just keep driving south.

Maybe putrid didn't hit the mark squarely since it was not actually decomposing. After rethinking it, I'll go with gag-inducing.

This location was The Turkey Shop for years. It was a must stop for the terrific sandwiches. The Snob is absolutely correct to call the food at Up In Smoke gag inducing. l

I'll agree with the Snob here (this happens very rarely as our tastes are vastly different). Up in Smoke is awful, awful food...all around. I've eaten an both stores, just out of morbid curiosity. Not.Good.

Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.
