The Best Barbecue in Dallas (That’s Not Really in Dallas)

The folks over at D Magazine have just released their February issue which features the top 16 BBQ joints in the DFW area. I know a little about the list, because I wrote the article. I urge you to pick up your very own copy, as it's available in newstands today. The pictures are incredible (not my own), and the writing is, well, not too bad either. I hope you enjoy it, but I welcome any comments, positive or negative.

I loved the article, Daniel. Dare I say, that style of writing is different than your "normal" style (on this blog) and really suits you! Thanks for providing us with great insight and for your labor of love.

Thanks for the compliment. It really changes things when you can spend 3 months researching and writing and revising several drafts for one cohesive piece rather than churning out 3 or 4 reviews per week. It was a really rewarding challenge.

Visited Off the Bone BBQ today in Forest Hills. Showed them my copy of D. They hadnt seen it yet. Eddie and Marilyn thanked me profusely for the visit and showing them the mag. I would have given it to them, but I havent read it yet. I had the pork ribs. Pretty darn good!!! Reminded me of Loui Muellers in Taylor. BBQDADDY

Thank you for writing this article, it is refeshing to see a best of dallas BBQ list that doesn't include the usual names.

BTW, I know its a chain, but I visited Rudy's in Frisco and thought it was the quite good.

Great article and congrats. It is so good to see some of these places listed instead of the same old boring list. I have been to most of these places, and they deserve to be rewarded for their products instead of being in the shadow.

BTW...Have you ever thought about doing a FCG-BBQ meetup?

Good stuff. Recently changed careers that will put me on the road all over the DFW. Mapping the top 16 into my GPS. Great article and thanks for the "sacrifice".

Thank you for writing this article. I bought the issue last Friday, and Saturday afternoon went to Meshack's in Garland. I arrived at the same time as another gentleman who had read the article. You have helped alert BBQ lovers in the city to some great food. I had the brisket from Meshack's; it was the best I've ever had.

DISCLAIMER:

Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.
