Randy "Rib King" Goss, R.I.P.

In some tragic news in the Texas BBQ world, Randy "Rib King" Goss was drowned in a freak car accident in San Antonio. Apparently his car was swept away in Cibolo Creek, where its high waters crossed a roadway that he attempted to cross in his car before it was swept by the waters.

Randy was a co-founder of the County Line BBQ chain when they first opened their doors in 1975. He will be missed.

You can find reports about the accident on SideDish and in local papers here and here.

A co-worker of mine was killed the same way years ago. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, try to drive across a swollen stream. NEVER!!!

DISCLAIMER:

Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.
