A buffet is available here, but we decided on sliced brisket and ribs. The spare ribs were large and meaty. They were tender and had a smoky crust, but had just decent seasoning. The brisket was also tender, smoky and had a nice crust. The smoke flavor was lacking outside of the crust, but it was overall a good brisket. This might not be the best place in the state, but it is the best in the neighborhood.

I was surprised to see this joint show up on Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Tasted" BBQ edition. Then again, The Saltlick was mentioned twice as a favorite, so I am a bit dubious.

Your site is great! Im visiting (read stuck in) Dallas and wanted BBQ. N. Main is close to the airport. The brisket must have been off today as it was quite rubbery...clearly unrendered. The pulled pork was very good, and ribs were just ok.

I'm done with North Main. Rubbery brisket that was obviously cooked too fast. These guys have become popular and they can't maintain a level of quality to match the demand.

Despite the buffet stigma, I visited today (on a Sunday) and had some really excellent Beef brisket. Because it was a buffet, I could pick exactly the pieces I wanted, and found some delicious barky, almost burnt ends brisket that was delicious. Crispy, smokey and with the appropriate amount of fat, these were excellent. The spare rib was ok. Not sure if I'll be going back, but being able to pick your own beef does have its advantages!

DISCLAIMER:

Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.
