8/2/11: In less than two weeks, Pecan Lodge will be hosting a Fundraiser for the Stone Family after the tragic death of Shannon Stone in early July at the Ballpark in Arlington. The event that will bring together some of the best fire tamers Dallas has to offer. Pitmasters from both Pecan Lodge and Lockhart Smokehouse along with pizzaiolo Jay Jerrier of Il Cane Rosso will prepare the food, and there will be plenty of other action with live music and a live auction.

The details of the auction aren't finalized, but some of the items include local sports memorabilia, lunch with James Beard nominated food writer, the Cheap Bastard, and a meal with myself and four others to share a Shiner Platter at Lockhart Smokehouse. Here's the full press release:

DALLAS PITMASTERS UNITE FOR STONE FAMILY FUNDRAISER

Pecan Lodge Catering and Lockhart Smokehouse join forces for a
Shannon Stone Memorial Fundraiser in Dallas

- Diane Mason Fourton of Pecan Lodge Catering and Jill Grobowsky Bergus of Lockhart Smokehouse were so moved by the tragic death of Lt. Shannon Stone at the Texas Rangers Game on July 7, 2011 that they have put aside barbecue competitiveness to help the family of the fallen firefighter with a fundraiser.

The event will feature a barbecue dinner with smoked meats from both Pecan Lodge (D Magazine’s “Best BBQ” in Dallas winner for 2011) and Lockhart Smokehouse (our local Cathedral for carnivores), burnt end pizzas from Il Cane Rosso’s Jay Jerrier along with drinks, music and a live auction. The auction items are being finalized and will be announced soon.

Sponsors include Dallas Farmers Market, Texas BBQ Posse, Full Custom Gospel BBQ, Il Cane Rosso, Edible DFW, Crave DFW, Deep Eddy Vodka and US Foods.
Local food and barbecue fans wishing to support the Stone family through this exciting event can purchase tickets, priced at $30 each at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1940775913

DISCLAIMER:

Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.
