After taking over from a former Dickey's location, these owners have changed little in the BBQ department. The temporary looking banner menu hangs inside does display their non-BBQ items like tacosand such, but I was here for smoked meat after Scott of DallasFood.org pointed out this joint as one I had not visited after I issued the BBQ Challenge on SideDish.
An order of brisket and ribs was anything but a satisfying discovery. The brisket was nothing but firm slices of roast beef lacking crust, smoke and any flavor at all. Dry and chewy ribs weren't much better. They too lacked smoke, and no crust could form on the meat with the heavy rub that made them taste more like taco seasoning than BBQ. I guess once it's been a Dickey's, there's little hope.

DISCLAIMER:
Each joint is judged on the essence of Texas 'cue...sliced brisket and pork ribs. Sausage is only considered if house made. Sauce is good, but good meat needs no adornment to satisfy. Each review can only be based on specific cuts of meat on that particular day. Finally, if the place fries up catfish or serves a caesar salad, then chances are they aren't paying enough attention to the pits, so we mostly steered clear.

Unfortunately, people in Plano don't have many choices for even half way decent que.
DV,
The burden of your quest is to great.
Spare yourself these atrocities. By now you
know what you're walking into. Just because the peole of Plano suffer doesn't mean you have to.
Save yourself,
Wyatt
I have good news for you Mark. I live in Plano & share your pain, it's brutal for BBQ. However, I discovered a little trick to get great BBQ nearby. Head east on the Bush Tollway/190, then take the exit south for Hwy 78 (Firewheel area.) In about 5 minutes you'll be at MeShack's BBQ, 240 E. Ave. B in Garland. It's amazing brisket and well worth the drive.
Chris,
Thanks for the info. I will try it.
I still believe that someone with capitol and BBQ savvy could make a killing in Plano.
Someone with capitol, BBQ savy, and good taste...
The new owners opening this place as a BBQ has nothing to do with it being a Dickeys before. It is just a location..
